Were to begin telling you about C2E’s evolution and how my heart has been drawn since day one to a very BIG PICTURE vision of Conscious Evolution?

Let’s begin with a list of C2E Vocab for this article…I have stopped assuming that most people know the meaning of a lot of words, and even if they know the words, we have such a Rainbow of meanings we personally attach to each word, that I think in order to establish clear communication, I’ll set up the stage by laying out what is my favorite meaning I attach to a specific word. These are NOT from the Dictionary, but from my collective gathering of years studying this concepts. The familiarity or lack there of with this words has nothing to do with intelligence or higher education, but with how each individual has been drawn to a specific planet of idioms that describe their interests and passions.

Intentional Community: A group of individuals living in proximity with a common purpose who believe that with INTENTION is how we create the world around us.

Intention: The new FOCUS, the new GOAL. A purpose we individually attach to an action in order to drive it forward with energy so that it can suddenly appear in your life when you least expect it!

Regenerative Living: Is the new SUSTAINABLE, which taps to our ability as living organisms to regrow, and bring itself into a renewed existence. Here is where we can start to expand beyond our capacities.

Sustainable Community: A group of individuals aware of how much they have been wasting resources for years and decide that is time to be wise stewards of what has been given to them to take care of. It is about having just enough of what you need without wasting or lacking in any way, shape or form.

Conscious: Being 100% aware of who you are in all the components within yourself.

Conscious Evolution: The natural process of growth, development, and maturity of a species. The next step forward if the genus is not extinct. The point in time we find ourselves in today based on the HISTORY, DATA, and PATTERNS collected through time which clearly state that crisis preceds transformation. As a species we have developed our capacities and powers to have the ability to be 100% Conscious of who we are, in other words, we are capable today to reach wholeness, the next step is Expansion, which is exactly what Evolution is all about, that is, IF the species doesn’t go into the extinct path.

Now with all that said and established, let me share with you one of the most transformational experiences I’ve had this year. Last May a mini-intentional community of four students of Conscious Evolution and Regenerative Living took a 7 day Field Trip, searching for answers and playing the mantra, ‘We Must Go and SEE for OURSELVES’ by Jacques Cousteau. Our common bond, finding our Heaven on Planet Earth (H.O.P.E.).

Our intention was to visit 3 intentional communities in Arizona and New Mexico to clarify the picture of our own vision as we take in what others are doing, what they have learned and what are their key challenges and blessings.

It all starts in Joshua Tree, base camp to our field trip with the sweet hospitality of Jill Giegerich in her soon-to-be-Oasis in the desert, where her and her business partner Tim DeLorey have developed their techniques on Water Harvesting in the desert through their company Eden Regenerative Design. Experts in water harvesting, the word Oasis is not metaphorical in this context. They literally know how to make an arid land yield TONS of water and life!

Our approximately 8 hour ride from Joshua Tree to Tucson was filled with education from Tim & Jill who know the desert fauna like the back of their hands and instead of stopping at 7/11 for road snacks, we would stop on areas filled with Palo Verdes and Mulberry Trees that yield to delicious snacks along the way. Tim had a delicious batch of Mulberry Chips that he had prepared in the desert.

Earth lover Barbara Rose, founder and Mother of Bean Tree Farm, a 20 acre saguaro/ ironwood forest farm & learning center, supplying local desert foods to the community in and around Tucson, Arizona, welcomed us to my first intentional community ever! Rammed earth architecture, home made tinctures, recycled bottle walls, cob thrones, and a fearless permaculture goddess welcomed us to a tangible version of what I’ve been seeing for years. I didn’t imagine desert lands, but I did imagine the joy, health, vibrancy, and connection to the earth my heart was pulling me towards since I left Equinox fitness 5 years ago (my corporate job as a Personal trainer). I remember feeling this knowing that, for my growth, I needed to connect more with nature (I’ve always been a City girl! Even in Puerto Rico!! I was the one who seldom left San Juan!!). At that point ventured to a discovery process that lead me to include Nature Connection as part of C2E’s Well-Being Wheel. I figured going to monthly Yoga Sunset Hikes and the occasional hike would suffice….but the more I sat with Barbara Rose and sensed her intriguing fully liberated energy, the more I understood that the closer you LIVE to the earth, the more ALIVE you feel. Even though she had me at “Hello!,” the confirmation of our kindred spirit was when I saw her enthusiastically preparing for her three awesome young interns, and sealed it when she said that she enjoys and maintains classes, intern programs, with small groups of people. Her literal Oasis (notice that I call C2E an Oasis of Transformational Fitness!) was a magical experience for me. I’ve been collecting vision boards of this reality for years…now I’m here…closer than ever! Bean Tree Farm in Tucson has desert permaculture down!!

Desert treasures, swales and berms marking the genius of early permaculturists in the 30′s who dug huge trenches with horses and buckets in order to harvest water and create a desert forest. (And it worked!) The pictures above show the vast green in the Desert Fauna Jungle in the middle of the Desert of Tucson, Arizona. Oasis, again, is not a metaphor.

The rooms we stayed at in Bean Tree Farm were comfy, earthy, clean, creative, aesthetically gorgeous. I seem to be missing a bunch of pictures from this interior decoration POV, which I love, and is kind of bumming me out. I’m also missing pictures of a short and sweet interlude with my cousin Molly & her husband Ryan, who so happened to live 15 minutes from Bean Tree Farm and came for a quick visit. Barbara Rose happened to meet someone in Ryan who was eager to know how to work with earth architecture. Go figure!

Close to 500 acres of Heaven on Planet Earth, Hummingbird Community and Living School hosts a work weekend quarterly for those interested in exploring their co-creative model of living in community. We stayed at their beautiful Ease house right across from their community home Grace, close to a geodesic dome greenhouse, as well as Dancing Colors yurt-like studio, a biodynamic garden, and next to a lovely and serene creek that lullabies the land constantly. After driving 12 hours from Tucson, landing HOME felt like the perfect reward. We arrived right on time for their Pot Luck Feast where we were deeply WELCOMED. Janice and I were both tickled to see the co-creative practices we have been learning and using for our bi-weekly POD meetings (POD is our Co-Creative Practices Lab inspired by Barbara Marx Hubbard and the book she recommends in her Sacred Journey of the Conscious Evolutionary Class both Mayra and Janice have taken. The Co-Creator’s Handbook by Carolyne Anderson and Katharine Roske  has been our guide to put some of this concepts in action, and meeting and working with Katharine (right there below on the left, digging away!) was like I enjoy saying, Vision Accomplished!! Carolyn and Katharine where two of 20 founders of Hummingbird Community more than 20 years ago.

Labyrinth, fairy circle, and a collection of perfect campground sites, were all part of the lovely meadow city, home to a medicine wheel I had the honor to revive through weeding and tending after a dormant season. I was thrilled to see this kind of operation so thoroughly organized . There was a lovely balance of scheduling and order combined with flow, improvisation and a pretty 90% consistent ‘All is well’ vibe that was palpable in every interaction. Bridging the gap between heart centered guidance and planning ahead is one of the challenges in any intentional community. Seeing the graceful hybrid of structure and intuition among those who play with the concept that time does not exist, was great inspiration to our POD at C2E.

Hummingbird Community has a collection of different type of ‘sustainable’ kind of shelters, such as the Dome below. This one is a wood frame structure but they use the same material I use for mine for covering, polycarbonate. Being inside a Green Living Dome was spectacular!

Homesteaders  (people who build a living space from scratch using earth materials ONLY!) Sunny & Sequoia are the permaculture arm of Hummingbird Community. True mastery at living harmoniously with the land is evident through their cob houses, goats, food crops, indoor/outdoor bedrooms & kitchens, ingenious creations & innovative solutions. Their highly advanced skill set in living with the land make them in our book one of the most prepared people to live in this planet in the times we’re in. Here below is the cutting edge of permaculture, these are the people who are not messing around with 100% OFF THE GRID. Hummingbird Community has the whole spectrum of sustainable and regenerative lifestyles, and it was fun to see all of us be drawn to various colors within the spectrum.

Honestead2 After 3 lovely days at Hummingbird Community and Living School, it was time to leave what did feel like a very like-minded group of people that really have their center within themselves as well as with the world around them. Helping them through Work Weekend was absolutely delightful! We liked it so much, Janice & I are planning to go again in September 8-11 for a Deep Immersion in  Living  Co-Creation We were inspired to launch a Fundraising Campaign to to help us bring this valuable information and the co-creative process to our Community here in Woodland Hills as well as globally.

Our next stop was Taos, 1 hour, Yeayyy!! Taos gave us a warm welcome with its amazing local coffee World Cup, beautiful Rio Grande river as well as its love locks and messages of hope.

Taos is the world headquarters for our third and last intentional community, the cutting edge Earthship Biotecture education, design, rentals and community center. A self-guided tour takes you through an innovative form of architecture using recycled materials and survival technology for water, power & plumbing systems. Their motto “we will always survive” sings the song of this army of terra firma-nauts eager to transform shelter to Gaudi meets Mad Max regenerative style!! I would love to stay in their Earthships for a few days some day. Even though we missed seeing some trees in the surreal landscape of miles and miles of this highly sculpted, creative and functional homes, the barren land, solicited the question…maybe we are on Mad Max and is not that bad after all.

The picturesque and quaint town of Flagstaff, Arizona offered a lovely closure to our field trip. Homey coffee shops, steampunk thrift stores, a zombie store and a bakery that looked like grandma’s kitchen continued to paint for us the great spectrum of community that connects people heart to heart and makes us feel like one big happy family!

As we drove back home we couldn’t help but understand how a mini-intentional community in the context of a road trip to uncover our future could experience that heart to heart connection that allowed us to walk harmoniously every day with amazing wonder, ease, and a sense of flow that was even a bit hard to describe. The best way I can describe it is that we were behaving like a living organism in itself. Where Natural Intelligence moved us without anybody having to lead. What we were inspired to do is what benefitted the whole. It was almost thelepathic in the most non-invasive way. It was a natural magnetism of goodness that took us to back to Joshua Tree feeling like we could do it all over again right there and then!!

I would like to thank Tim, Janice, Jill, Barbara Rose, Katharine Roske, Masha Roske, Amanda, Sean, Sunny, Sequioa, DaBo, and all the Hummingbird Family we can’t wait to see in September for a weekend of Deep Immersion in Living Co-Creation.

May every step we take in understanding and implementing how to live regeneratively, bring the magic of resonance, and heart to heart connection to all who have the ears to hear the calling of what is the potential of our species. May our ability to be a loving, creative, witty, and emotionally intelligent species make us every day more and more capable of infusing love to our powers.

I so agree with a scripture in the Bible that says ‘We were created for times as such as these.” Regardless of the paradox of the times, the light will always overtake the darkness.

Re-Defining Beauty, a Camp Experience we ALL need!

This past Tuesday-Wednesday was the closing event of Re-Defining Beauty Youth Girls Camp, C2E’s first all girls youth summer program. Four twelve year old girls learned the Self Optimization Sanctuary (S.O.S.) method that has emerged at C2E through the past 5 years, where one gets to connect the dots of complete self-sufficiency in managing ALL of your Being DAILY, at HOME, FOREVER.

The program’s finale was a sleep over at the Villa where the Dome became their dorm, garden dining their final community meal, and fire ceremony facilitated their releasing of all the ways they had not been true to themselves.

I had the blessing to have wellness coach, Trish Reynolds, collaborate with the girls and I in creating a truly unforgettable experience for all of us.

The girls received an exceptional month of Body Integration principles at the Villa. Much heart and soul shared with them and much expanded in their hearts as we witnessed young girls understanding the concepts of loyalty to themselves, and what it actually feels like when doing it.

They learned about all of their components within themselves (physical, emotional, mental, energetic, spiritual, and experiential) and what questions to ask each of them in order to become the best stewards of themselves ever in order to become whole and intrinsic to the world around them.

They learned what that big word Consciousness really looks like in action and also what the big word Aware looks like in action. For example, bringing all their attention to their spine as they lay on the floor and lift their hips into in to a bridge, using their imagination to breath through the spine, and say thank you, thank you, thank you for remaining an open highway of neuromuscular connection and energy throughout our body.

They learned the essence of trusting intuition and catching impulse, which feels like intuition, but is often tied to mindsets that come outside of us, so they learned how to connect with their center (through the breath) in order to differentiate one from the other.

They learned that through art they can strengthen the intuition muscle and that it’s actually OK to “Not know what they’re doing.” They understood the freedom that exists in the type of art where they don’t have to think, but feel their way through, to be surprised more often than not that they love the end product after all.

They learned that their physical bodies where designed to move mainly in three planes of motion and that moving in all three planes DAILY, at HOME, FOREVER, will keep all their muscles ON and engage in participating in every move they make.

They learned about the importance of rituals of self-reflection, DAILY, at HOME, FOREVER with simple tools of self-connection such as journaling, reading a book that inspires them, tracing circuits of sacred geometry as meditation, and answering important questions about what ‘bugs’ them in their lives. They noticed how the more they took the time to do this, the more they knew or understood themselves, leaving no part of their Being left behind in their discovery process.

They learned how limiting it is to experience life when you’re not comfortable in your body. They learned that agility, vitality, strength, balance, endurance, coordination, and flexibility assist us in LIVING life fully by giving us the freedom to play, dance, lift, swing, hang, spin, jump, swim, and move on the earth in full yummy comfort.

They learned that all the food we take acts as a biochemical activator and that eating healthy snacks CAN taste very good, be easy and fun to make, as well as cause changes in the positive or negative to their moods and energy levels.

They learned to play with their bodies’ thresholds and the importance of learning to be comfortable in the fire of exertion.

They learned to develop character in a creative process that expresses what is important for them to express at any given point in their lives through key and simple questions, such as ‘What makes me really angry?,” and “What challenges have I overcome?”

A New Dawn of Fitness is Here!!!

SOS(Abbrev)YellowThe moment I left Equinox 4 years ago, I owned the fact that my journey as a business owner was there to help me express myself fully in this world. My vision was there for my own growth, and since expansion is one of my favorite hobbies, I took on the journey with my typical excitement, curiosity, and eagerness to stand in my evolutionary edge and see me expand to the most authentic version of my personal trainer self. The past 4 years have been a true discovery road to what I experience as almost complete wholeness!  Finding my signature training system, and philosophy has allowed me the opportunity to integrate all of who I AM into how I serve the world. With the help of Soul Art Shaman, Laura Hollick, and her epic annual Nü Icon Movie event, which I’ve attended for the past 3 years, I’ve obtained more and more clarity as to how to bring all of ME into my practice. Dancer, model, filmmaker, art journalist, celebration queen, social architect, conscious evolutionary, prayer warrior, meditation guide, and even parenting coach. In her Nü Icon Movie events Laura leads a magical vision quest where annually I would unearth more of my treasures that needed to be expressed.

As you can probably tell (or realized already) ALL these aspects of myself created for some time a big mushy mess that not many could see the east from the west. My comfort zone in complexity began to be a detriment in my marketing. Nobody really understood what I was doing. It was a season of discovery and I gave myself permission to let it be, trusting the impulse of my creation, just how my other Visionary mother, Barbara Marx Hubbard, encouraged me to do that one day I was convicted to leave my corporate job. Seeing the negative effects of my muddy planet, I dove in to a search for answers in October 2015, after purchasing Laura Hollick’s Creativity Cleanse. This process that Laura has packaged so beautifully was the catalyst to my new found C2E CLARITY and STRATEGY for 2016. Giving myself the time to receive the answers from my heart, which is ONE with divine guidance, has been the most precious gift I have received from putting myself through these rich practices of soul searching. It has been through this undertaking, where I realized that what I bring to the fitness world is a New Dawn of Fitness! A new dawn that is about finding our essence (our true selves), instead of our ego; finding a deep love for ourselves, instead of beating ourselves up with critical putdowns about our physique; and doing our self-care practices as an urgent responsible act DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER, instead of ‘when I have time some day.’

DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER will bring a New Dawn of Fitness to our lives.

DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER, has become my life saver, my connection point where I can maintain sanity, stay connected to my truth and actually feel amazing MOST of the TIME!

DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER, has been the ultimate way to activate a regenerative process in my body, mind and spirit, where I honestly feel I get younger every day as I find myself more agile, with more endurance, more strength, and a more effective immune system!

DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER, solves the two greatest obstacles to our fitness: time and money.

DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER, is the mission of what I have coined as the Self Optimization Sanctuary™, which is the vortex I help others create at home so that we are pulled effortlessly to take care of ourselves just like we brush our teeth every morning and we feed ourselves at least 3 times a day with unfailing discipline!

In this uncertain times, personal transformation of body, mind, and spirit is crucial to live abundantly.

There’s no short cut, or happy pill, or lotto ticket that will bring this personal transformation other than getting our hands actively, seriously, and responsibly involved in the process. Transformation is not, as many like to call it, a new-agy term, it is an urgent call to all of us inhabiting this planet if we want rise above the turmoil that exists.

Self Optimization Sanctuary’s ™ acronym S.O.S. is there to remind us of the urgency it currently exists for all of us to take serious care of our most important piece of real estate: our body, which is made up of physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional energy. Saying ‘I’m not a spiritual person.’ these days is simply denying who we ARE.

I challenged myself to create a series of 12 videos this year, one monthly, where I will do my best to communicate the meaning of Body Integration. Here is video #1, which I titled Essence, as a tribute to finding the treasure of my self-expression.

With music by Badmarsh & Shri from the Album Signs, Tribal was a song that was part of C2E’s inception music collection. It’s a style that Mayra resonates with and inspired her in many levels. “Essence” will take you to a very intimate space for me, my S.O.S. at home that embodies my own living altar of well-being. It is in this space that I find strength, comfort, inspiration, release, witty ideas, great joy, piercing screams and all the jungle of life wants to express through my inner homo-luminous beast,  Master Trainer & Body Integration Specialist. The video is my first shot at filmmaking about 20 years and it has been a true joy to embrace this craft that I was so passionate about and brought me to California to study in UCLA’s Film School in 1985. When we see our lives going through these kind of full circles, it is usually that moment when, as Buddha has been quoted to say: “When you realize how perfect everything is, and then you tilt your head back and laugh at the sky.”

I would like to thank Deborah Kolb, my photography angel who has been integral in this journey of self-discovery. She has been there to encapsulate my transformation from day one and we are now teaming up to offer my clients the amazing opportunity to have Deborah photograph their new found selves! Garbanzo Beans, Walnuts and Radiant Energies!

Good Thursday morning on this lovely grey day on our cooling down slide. YAAY  Garden has struggled a bit in the heat, probably will make it thru with some still producing tomatoes and a couple of cucumber plants, some collards and chard so we are grateful for that. I am longing to do something with corn but it just hasn’t come into our farmers market as of yet but the moment it does I will be doing something corny. In the meantime this week just the herbs from the garden on  the menu. This week’s health tips about garbanzo beans, walnuts and another energy exercise to help radiate more joy and love .

Garbanzo beans contain phytochemicals called saponins, which can act as antioxidants. It could lower the risk of breast cancer, protect against osteoporosis and minimizes hot flushes in post-menopausal women.

Weight Loss: Due to high fiber content and low glycemic index, chickpeas are excellent for weight loss diets. Garbanzos can also boost your energy because of their high iron content.

Did you know that walnuts are good for your brain? They  contain a number of neuroprotective compounds, including vitamin E, folate, melatonin, omega-3 fats, and antioxidants. Research shows walnut consumption may support brain health.One medical study found that consuming high-antioxidant foods like walnuts “can decrease the enhanced vulnerability to oxidative stress that occurs in aging,” “increase health span,” and also “enhance cognitive and motor function in aging.” If you need an afternoon snack eating a handful of walnuts could be just the boost you need.

1. Use your imagination to activate your Radiant Energies. Remember a time when you felt wonderful. Using as many of your senses as possible – see the scene, hear the sounds, fully feel the pleasant body sensations, possibly a sense of openness and warmth in your chest and belly, or a gentle breeze caressing your face. Breathe in and fully enjoy these sensations and notice what happens in your body and with your mood and level of energy.

2. Place your hands at your temples and smooth behind your ears and down your neck 3 or 4 times then let your hands rest on your shoulders. Take a nice big inhale. As you exhale pull your hands down off your shoulders and place them over your heart.

3. Breathe gratitude through your heart – for something that is good in your life, even if it is so very simple like having this moment of peace and breath. This simple exercise can do so much to shift our energies and help us feel better and more connected and alive!

C2E Launches Dream Maker Project with a Field Trip to Cal-Earth Institute

Screen shot 2015-01-04 at 10.11.07 AM C2E’s Dream Maker Project (DMP) is an initiative to inspire, and engage people in the act of actually taking leaps of faith to carry out their dreams. We believe that it is in our dreams and visions for ourselves that we hold the solutions for a sustainable planet. We kicked off our first DMP with a wonderful field trip to Cal-Earth Institute yesterday and I must say that we filled our inspiration tanks to start Dr. Kalec’s Dream: The Peace Dome with fantastic momentum!!

Dr. Kalec and her amazing enthusiasm gathered a group of architects and sustainability enthusiasts to go check out what was once Nader Khalili’s dream, to build and test earth architecture prototypes that will educate people globally on how to empower themselves to be able to build with their own hands sustainable housing. I was drawn to this kind of architecture at first because it has the same look and feel as C2E’s Villa, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to build a little cottage for my Mom in our property, but the more I learn about the amazing benefits of building with earth, the more understanding I get about why I’ve been so drawn to it. It comes down to the three principles of Cal-Earth’s Mission:

1. shelter is a basic human right

2. every human being should be able to build a house for themselves and their family

3. the best way to provide shelter for the exponentially increasing human population is by building with earth

How is health and fitness related to all this?

Physiological needs are the physical requirements for human survival. If these requirements are not met, the human body cannot function properly and will ultimately fail. Physiological needs are thought to be the most important; they should be met first. Air, water, and food are metabolic requirements for survival in all animals, including humans. Clothing and shelter provide necessary protection from the elements. It is almost impossible to reach self-optimization and actualization without these basic needs met, and in the economic state that we have been in during the last few years, is very obvious that housing has become a critical concern for ALL, regardless of socio-economic backgrounds.

It is empowering to KNOW that there are other options that are not only safer and way more durable than traditional architecture, but also completely affordable. These options also bring a lot of peace of mind, and we intend to continue exploring this path.

VLOG: How to step up our sustainability practices Pt. 1 of 3

GreenFestivalC2EWe are soooo excited for this coming weekend, when Green Festival, LA will be at the LA Convention Center and C2E will be collaborating with OmGym International once again, in their Yoga & Movement Pavillion! Sarah Kellet, OmGym International’s Foundress, has invited me to teach some classes as well as doing demos for OmGym Yoga Suspension System.

I have a feeling this event is going to be like a class reunion of a giant community thriving for the best lifestyle in the planet: a Sustainable One!! In this VLOG I share some tips on how to step up our sustainability practices now that we seem to have recycling down for the most part. Time to let our practices evolve to their next level! Bringing the macro to the micro, just for a little while, before we can go and fly for our planet.

Self Optimization Sanctuary training is how we roll at C2E. We train for self-sufficiency in personal care of body. mind and spirit. Every session is focused on equipping you to integrate all aspects of yourself to a focused time of personally healing, strengthening, and just BEing with YOUR body, listening and giving it what it needs. This video explores this style of training in a very raw form. This is Mayra’s personal experience in her SOS, which includes vocal guidance to focus herself, a few drum beats, and a flow of strength, flexibility, balance, cardio and power drills. Enjoy!!

 


The OmGym Transformation

Shannon’s honest approach by sharing her fears and reservations are inspiring. We love reading about Shannon’s OmGym transformation, and hope that you will, too.

It sounded so strange: when Mayra McCullough described the OMGym workout to me, using words like “suspended,” “inverted,” and “cocoon,” I had visions of Cirque du Soleil performers in skimpy costumes; their taut, bendy bodies moving in ways I never could. I have no flexibility, and never have. I have never been in shape. I am usually on the brink of war with my body. Occasionally, it decides to break down when it can’t take any more abuse, and I reluctantly give it a break just long enough to get semi-functional again before I go back to pervasive and destructive habits of high stress levels, lack of exercise, and emotional eating.

The OMGym sounded scary. It sounded like it demanded a certain level of lithe physical fitness and balance. It sounded dangerous. It could not be for someone like me: overweight and out of shape.

It’s not like I’ve never worked out, though I was born with some minor physical issues. I’ve had gym memberships. I’ve even had personal trainers who worked me so hard on several occasions that I threw up. It didn’t matter to which gym I belonged; each one had the same stifling atmosphere of judgment, competition, and negativity. I hated going there, so I didn’t. But I paid my monthly membership dues anyway, to maintain some shred of hope that I would find the motivation to get in shape.

“Just try it,” Mayra urged. “What’s the worst thing that could happen?” I could break my neck, I thought to myself, but I agreed to give it a go because, well, she seemed so happy, like she thoroughly enjoyed her workouts.  I’ve never enjoyed exercising, and I didn’t believe I’d enjoy the OMGym either, but I was desperate to change.

Mayra must have sensed my nervousness when I arrived for my private demonstration. She smiled warmly and took me by the hand.  “We’re just going to play,” she reassured me.

And play I did, once I let go of fear of failure.

I swung. I hung upside down. I flew like Superman. I laughed. I did exercises I never knew I could do.  Maybe I didn’t look it, but I felt like one of those beautiful performers from Cirque du Soleil. Graceful. Strong of body, mind, and spirit. There was no failure; there was only support.  And then it hit me: I was enjoying working out.

The OMGym movements are playful and soulful. In some respects, my body had never worked harder. I was sore, but I didn’t hurt. I felt tired, but also rejuvenated.  The entire process made me feel gratitude for my body, and the workout was like a peace offering.  I started to trust my body, and my body responded in kind. My energy level skyrocketed. I couldn’t wait to do it again.

I’ve been playing ever since.

I know that the OmGym sounds strange. And it is, at first. But then it’s magical and wonderful and uplifting. It becomes something else. I became something else. Or maybe I became myself, finally, for the first time.

Last week, we gave you some tips for creating a space for home self-care by creating your Self-Optimization Sanctuary (S.O.S.). Your sanctuary is a sacred space to foster a daily fitness and well-being regimen.

Here is an example of what my personal S.O.S. exercise flow looks like. Please note that my objective is not to give you a specific set of exercises; but ideas on how to flow with the needs of your own body.
