Re-Defining Beauty, a Camp Experience we ALL need!

C2EYouthProgramSummer2016Collage

This past Tuesday-Wednesday was the closing event of Re-Defining Beauty Youth Girls Camp, C2E’s first all girls youth summer program. Four twelve year old girls learned the Self Optimization Sanctuary (S.O.S.) method that has emerged at C2E through the past 5 years, where one gets to connect the dots of complete self-sufficiency in managing ALL of your Being DAILY, at HOME, FOREVER.

The program’s finale was a sleep over at the Villa where the Dome became their dorm, garden dining their final community meal, and fire ceremony facilitated their releasing of all the ways they had not been true to themselves.

I had the blessing to have wellness coach, Trish Reynolds, collaborate with the girls and I in creating a truly unforgettable experience for all of us.

The girls received an exceptional month of Body Integration principles at the Villa. Much heart and soul shared with them and much expanded in their hearts as we witnessed young girls understanding the concepts of loyalty to themselves, and what it actually feels like when doing it.

Screen Shot 2016-08-03 at 3.24.15 PM

They learned about all of their components within themselves (physical, emotional, mental, energetic, spiritual, and experiential) and what questions to ask each of them in order to become the best stewards of themselves ever in order to become whole and intrinsic to the world around them.

They learned what that big word Consciousness really looks like in action and also what the big word Aware looks like in action. For example, bringing all their attention to their spine as they lay on the floor and lift their hips into in to a bridge, using their imagination to breath through the spine, and say thank you, thank you, thank you for remaining an open highway of neuromuscular connection and energy throughout our body.

CampMontage2

They learned the essence of trusting intuition and catching impulse, which feels like intuition, but is often tied to mindsets that come outside of us, so they learned how to connect with their center (through the breath) in order to differentiate one from the other.

They learned that through art they can strengthen the intuition muscle and that it’s actually OK to “Not know what they’re doing.” They understood the freedom that exists in the type of art where they don’t have to think, but feel their way through, to be surprised more often than not that they love the end product after all.

CampMontage3

They learned that their physical bodies where designed to move mainly in three planes of motion and that moving in all three planes DAILY, at HOME, FOREVER, will keep all their muscles ON and engage in participating in every move they make.

They learned about the importance of rituals of self-reflection, DAILY, at HOME, FOREVER with simple tools of self-connection such as journaling, reading a book that inspires them, tracing circuits of sacred geometry as meditation, and answering important questions about what ‘bugs’ them in their lives. They noticed how the more they took the time to do this, the more they knew or understood themselves, leaving no part of their Being left behind in their discovery process.

CampMontage4

They learned how limiting it is to experience life when you’re not comfortable in your body. They learned that agility, vitality, strength, balance, endurance, coordination, and flexibility assist us in LIVING life fully by giving us the freedom to play, dance, lift, swing, hang, spin, jump, swim, and move on the earth in full yummy comfort.

They learned that all the food we take acts as a biochemical activator and that eating healthy snacks CAN taste very good, be easy and fun to make, as well as cause changes in the positive or negative to their moods and energy levels.

CampMontage5

They learned to play with their bodies’ thresholds and the importance of learning to be comfortable in the fire of exertion.

They learned to develop character in a creative process that expresses what is important for them to express at any given point in their lives through key and simple questions, such as ‘What makes me really angry?,” and “What challenges have I overcome?”

More programs to be offered soon! Please feel free to e-mail me (mayra@coach2edify.org) if you are interested in customizing a group for Self Optimization Sanctuary (S.O.S.) Training. Looking forward to spreading the LOVE!

And with that….and after thanking all the parents who entrusted me with their lovely daughters! I am COMPLETE.

A few of my clients have requested I organize an all girls pijama party at the Villa, and I was inspired this morning to facilitate one in the next coming months. Stay tuned!!

Defining a Vision Quest and the bottom line about Manifesting

Screen Shot 2016-07-29 at 4.21.22 PM

As I dive in to the space to be open to receive what C2E’s upcoming Vision Quest 2.0 has for us, I’m filled with gratitude to be in a reality where I can share with you what I gather as the MOST important process in my life.

I will never claim I know the way, cause I don’t, nobody does, in reality, the closest we can get to absolute truth is death. All I do is share my life with others, the life that has given me the most regenerative power. I am the consummate explorer of my self, and all the bodies that construct it: the physical body, mental body, emotional body, energetic body, spiritual body, and as my 12 year old camp student stated brilliantly last week, the body of experiences we accumulate in this lifetime and as many lifetimes we believe we have.

Since I left my corporate job 5 years ago, and dove into my trainer-evolution to become a Body Integration Specialist, my life has become a playground of movement, intuition, and art that doesn’t ever stop showing me the purpose and meaning of EVERY event I experience: including the good, the bad and the ugly.

Every program I get inspired to express through C2E is designed to assist you to connect all the dots of the sacred geometry of your complex selves. It’s sacred  because the only way to dedicate the time we need to keep ourselves whole (as opposed to broken) is if we regard it with great respect and reverence. It’s geometry because it concerns the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogs of our being, which can be extremely complex, but yet, once you know them, extremely simple and profound. When you find your own sacred geometry you tap to the properties of natural intelligence and it’s uncanny ability to self-sooth, self-heal, and self organize. And that’s exactly where we need to be to live life abundantly.

Screen Shot 2016-07-29 at 4.24.32 PM

So you might be asking…

How do I integrate all my bodies to become this sacred geometry self?

By being your best playmate and setting out to discover with child-like curiosity your own Vision Quest, your personal system of self-discovery, growth and development.  It’s a lifestyle of being aware of where you’re at, and letting life speak to you, guide you, show you the way. Life becomes like a treasure hunt of challenges, explorations, and solutions that are inspired by YOU and YOUR connection to your LIFE experience and your sources of strength.

I have pushed buttons of people I highly admire and respect in regards to how freely I use certain terms in my C2E Vocabulary. The origin of the term Vision Quest comes from native American tradition and ceremony, and I would like to quote my dear Dr. Janice Kalec, C2E’s Multi-dimensional chiropractor, who is a sage of Native American traditions, among others, in a passage at the end of this article where I have included various resources about the Vision Quest topic.

I would like to acknowledge the source of this tradition and request the pardon of any ancestors, ceremonialists, and guides for whom this has caused any confusion. I believe that our habits of transformation shall be contained as sacred and unique for every single person it helps, independently from dogma, conditioning or generational expectations. I have also included a section below to include resources for another coined term Sacred Geometry.

Screen Shot 2016-07-29 at 11.16.50 PM

My first Vision Quest was with Soul Art Shaman Laura Hollick, (picture above) whose definition of a Vision Quest is her own as well, through self-expression and art. It was through her creative guidance where I began to discover the most authentic version of myself, which allowed me to master my own process through what I connect the most, movement. My personal Vision Quests are highly connected to movement, and the work done in my Self Optimization Sanctuary (S.O.S.) which is the space I create to check in with ALL of my bodies DAILY, at HOME, FOREVER. That’s what I assist people in creating for themselves, a sanctuary of all who YOU are, a check in point to RESET, CALIBRATE, RELEASE, BREATH, MOVE, and literally work it all OUT!

SOSART

May this article inspire you to create your own definition of a Vision Quest. I’m just holding a container through all I’m drawn to share for you to explore ALL of YOU, and become intimate with who you truly are from all vantage points, lenses, and perspectives. If you feel you need a little guidance in creating your own path of self-discovery, growth, and expansion, dive in to C2E’s collective, virtual, and self-lead Vision Quest 2.0 starting this Sunday, July 31st @ 7pm.

Screen Shot 2016-07-29 at 4.28.21 PM

I’ve been blessed to hear others say I’m a Manifestor, one who sees a vision, and puff! it happens! To my detriment at times, I run with a vision (and get ahead of myself at times) and bring it to pass. I’m obsessed with keeping my word and if I say it, I feel compelled to have to make it a reality. Outside of the trouble this can bring when you jump into a vision before it’s due time, I must say I recognize this as one of my POWERS. As I see it, manifesting is but one main thing….getting it done! Doing the work, diving courageously into your self,  DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER. That’s how I’ve experienced my Supernatural Production life, feeling miraculously supported from every angle, that never ceases to amaze me with magic left and right. A life on the edge of the known and the unknown, where the only option is to stay in the Zen of your Equator, regardless of the light or dark dancing around you.

Beautiful Woman Dancing in a funky outfit

My intention in sharing a Vision Quest structure and template is to equip you with processes, prompts, and questions that bring you to your SELF, your center, your Equator in the most intimate, direct, and authentic way. When we learn to access this healing channel, a new world of possibilities open up. A place where you can only experience if you step into the unknown.

C2E’s Vision Quest 2.0 will start this Sunday, July 31st at 7pm. For more information go the the event page (here) and to register e-mail mayra@coach2edify.org.

Learning Resources for the topic: Vision Quest

By Dr. Janice Kalec

The most accurate description of the Vision Quest that I am aware of is the description in the book:  The Sacred Pipe: Black Elk’s Account of the seven Rites of the Oglala Sioux by Joseph Epes Brown. In any case the meaning that I associate with Vision Quest is consistent with the description in this book and with the way it was carried out by the Native elders with whom I studied.

In a kind of nutshell – One who is called to Quest traditionally did so with an elder as a mentor.  After studying with this mentor for a period of time – perhaps a year or longer – at some point along this path one would be called to become a pipe carrier as the pipe becomes one of the items carried with one on the quest.  As the time grows closer to the quest one is usually involved in regular sweat lodges either with one’s mentor or with other elders.  The general site of the quest is typically selected by the elder.  Either before leaving for the quest – or in some cases one arrives at the site a few days before the quest – the one questing makes 104 prayer ties and 6 prayer flags.  What goes on these varies somewhat from elder to elder.

Screen Shot 2016-07-29 at 11.13.19 PM

The night before the quest there is a sweat lodge after this point the one questing has no more food or water until their return. Very early the next morning there is another sweat lodge before ascending the mountain so that one begins the quest at sunrise.  The one questing is usually accompanied by an assistant to the elder – a guide – to a location on the mountain where the questing one sets up their quest circle of prayer ties and flags and other sacred items then they are left alone to be on the mountain with no other person in site for the duration of the quest without food or water.  The length of the quest may vary from 24 hours to 4 days.  The conditions that most accurately describe the Vision Quest is that it is something one does alone typically on a mountain after having been purified in the lodge and one is fasting without food or water.  When one returns still no food or water until after another sweat lodge.  After that lodge the elder will often meet with the questing person one on one to hear what happened on the mountain and to help the person interpret the experiences.  After that one has food and water.

The article above provides a section for Misappropiation, which is the point of differentiation between creative practitioners like myself who like attaching their own meaning to words such as Vision Quest and Sacred Geometry, and those who embrace the history of each coined term with reverence and respect to it’s place of orogin. I see the cultural borrowing and cross-fertilization of concepts as our freedom and right as individuals to attach to things the meaning that serves us to understand our reality. Nevertheless I respect, understand and honor those who like attaching unchageable meanings to words, concepts, and ideas. Here is an interesting article about Cultural Appropiation:

A New Dawn of Fitness is Here!!!

SOS(Abbrev)YellowThe moment I left Equinox 4 years ago, I owned the fact that my journey as a business owner was there to help me express myself fully in this world. My vision was there for my own growth, and since expansion is one of my favorite hobbies, I took on the journey with my typical excitement, curiosity, and eagerness to stand in my evolutionary edge and see me expand to the most authentic version of my personal trainer self. The past 4 years have been a true discovery road to what I experience as almost complete wholeness!  Finding my signature training system, and philosophy has allowed me the opportunity to integrate all of who I AM into how I serve the world. With the help of Soul Art Shaman, Laura Hollick, and her epic annual Nü Icon Movie event, which I’ve attended for the past 3 years, I’ve obtained more and more clarity as to how to bring all of ME into my practice. Dancer, model, filmmaker, art journalist, celebration queen, social architect, conscious evolutionary, prayer warrior, meditation guide, and even parenting coach. In her Nü Icon Movie events Laura leads a magical vision quest where annually I would unearth more of my treasures that needed to be expressed.

As you can probably tell (or realized already) ALL these aspects of myself created for some time a big mushy mess that not many could see the east from the west. My comfort zone in complexity began to be a detriment in my marketing. Nobody really understood what I was doing. It was a season of discovery and I gave myself permission to let it be, trusting the impulse of my creation, just how my other Visionary mother, Barbara Marx Hubbard, encouraged me to do that one day I was convicted to leave my corporate job. Seeing the negative effects of my muddy planet, I dove in to a search for answers in October 2015, after purchasing Laura Hollick’s Creativity Cleanse. This process that Laura has packaged so beautifully was the catalyst to my new found C2E CLARITY and STRATEGY for 2016. Giving myself the time to receive the answers from my heart, which is ONE with divine guidance, has been the most precious gift I have received from putting myself through these rich practices of soul searching. It has been through this undertaking, where I realized that what I bring to the fitness world is a New Dawn of Fitness! A new dawn that is about finding our essence (our true selves), instead of our ego; finding a deep love for ourselves, instead of beating ourselves up with critical putdowns about our physique; and doing our self-care practices as an urgent responsible act DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER, instead of ‘when I have time some day.’

DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER will bring a New Dawn of Fitness to our lives.

DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER, has become my life saver, my connection point where I can maintain sanity, stay connected to my truth and actually feel amazing MOST of the TIME!

DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER, has been the ultimate way to activate a regenerative process in my body, mind and spirit, where I honestly feel I get younger every day as I find myself more agile, with more endurance, more strength, and a more effective immune system!

DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER, solves the two greatest obstacles to our fitness: time and money.

DAILY, AT HOME, FOREVER, is the mission of what I have coined as the Self Optimization Sanctuary™, which is the vortex I help others create at home so that we are pulled effortlessly to take care of ourselves just like we brush our teeth every morning and we feed ourselves at least 3 times a day with unfailing discipline!

January 2016 marks a new season of clarity, unbroken focus, and openness to share with the world all the beautiful discoveries through 10 years of  tenacious work. Birthing a system of full body integration that has been tested to be a bridge builder between our vision of wholeness and the practical application of actually BEING WHOLE, has been the greatest reward.

I will begin the conclusion of this post here with my deffiniton of Body Integration Specialist, my new vocation that I hold as a Master Trainer who has evolved her practice to contain all of the gifts I have to offer as a human being. No longer compartmentalizing myself, but allowing a WHOLE me lead others by example to the state of full expression and well-being that is our birthright!

Body Integration Specialist: A holistic fitness professional involved in exercise prescription and instruction with the intention of assisting individuals integrate all the components within themselves, in order to become whole and intrinsic to the world around them.

In this uncertain times, personal transformation of body, mind, and spirit is crucial to live abundantly.

There’s no short cut, or happy pill, or lotto ticket that will bring this personal transformation other than getting our hands actively, seriously, and responsibly involved in the process. Transformation is not, as many like to call it, a new-agy term, it is an urgent call to all of us inhabiting this planet if we want rise above the turmoil that exists.

Self Optimization Sanctuary’s ™ acronym S.O.S. is there to remind us of the urgency it currently exists for all of us to take serious care of our most important piece of real estate: our body, which is made up of physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional energy. Saying ‘I’m not a spiritual person.’ these days is simply denying who we ARE.

I challenged myself to create a series of 12 videos this year, one monthly, where I will do my best to communicate the meaning of Body Integration. Here is video #1, which I titled Essence, as a tribute to finding the treasure of my self-expression.

With music by Badmarsh & Shri from the Album Signs, Tribal was a song that was part of C2E’s inception music collection. It’s a style that Mayra resonates with and inspired her in many levels. “Essence” will take you to a very intimate space for me, my S.O.S. at home that embodies my own living altar of well-being. It is in this space that I find strength, comfort, inspiration, release, witty ideas, great joy, piercing screams and all the jungle of life wants to express through my inner homo-luminous beast,  Master Trainer & Body Integration Specialist. The video is my first shot at filmmaking about 20 years and it has been a true joy to embrace this craft that I was so passionate about and brought me to California to study in UCLA’s Film School in 1985. When we see our lives going through these kind of full circles, it is usually that moment when, as Buddha has been quoted to say: “When you realize how perfect everything is, and then you tilt your head back and laugh at the sky.”

I would like to thank Deborah Kolb, my photography angel who has been integral in this journey of self-discovery. She has been there to encapsulate my transformation from day one and we are now teaming up to offer my clients the amazing opportunity to have Deborah photograph their new found selves! You can find out more about that  on the FREE Webinar on February 1st (details above). She shot all the still photography of this video and once again captured my zone!

3D Fitness Flows for your Self-Optimization Sanctuary

Comments Off

Last week, we gave you some tips for creating a space for home self-care by creating your Self-Optimization Sanctuary (S.O.S.). Your sanctuary is a sacred space to foster a daily fitness and well-being regimen.

Here is an example of what my personal S.O.S. exercise flow looks like. Please note that my objective is not to give you a specific set of exercises; but ideas on how to flow with the needs of your own body.

At Coach2Edify, it is our mission to inspire others to create a sustainable and consistent self-care routine that becomes as second nature as brushing one’s teeth in the morning. Activities such as journaling, meditating, and creative expression are also recommended to integrate in your S.O.S. time. For personalized workouts to do at home, please feel free to contact us for a free consultation.

Quick Tips to Create Your Home Gym and Self-Optimization Sanctuary

Comments Off

I love training with my clients on a routine basis, but it’s important that they maintain optimal 3D fitness between our training sessions. The best way to achieve this is to create a Self-Optimization Sanctuary (SOS).

I find that the main obstacle to self-care is lack of time. Driving to the gym, scheduling yoga classes, or rushing to pilates takes time. The best solution to this little problem is to create an SOS gym in your own living space.

Here are some tips on how to create a sacred space that will draw you in and leave you no option but to dive in, care for, and LOVE yourself!

Let’s do a little space make-over here. The Coach2Edify Villa is pictured below.

BEFORE the SOS Makeover

Screen shot 2014-03-26 at 3.13.00 PM

AFTER the SOS Makeover

Screen shot 2014-03-26 at 3.17.39 PM

Here are the simple things you’ll need to create your own SOS and gym:

  • Gold’s Gym 6-piece puzzle mat
  • Yoga mat
  • Bolster
  • Yoga blocks
  • Yoga straps
  • Weights
  • Swiss ball

1. Create an altar with things you love to help you set the mood for SOS time. For me, the magic ingredients are music, zesty aromas, sage, and a journal. I also like to add totems or stones that remind me of positive thoughts, memories, and intentions. The little bottle of water pictured reminds me of clarity, focus, and stillness.

Screen shot 2014-03-26 at 3.25.51 PM

2. Schedule SOS times as if they were sacred appointments with yourself. These appointments will reward you with positive, connected, grounded, and peaceful feelings. Body, mind, and spirit will reward you with the pleasure principle of gratitude to your higher self.

Screen shot 2014-03-26 at 3.25.29 PM

ENJOY!

At Coach2Edify, our mission is to create a global movement of sanctuaries to establish a culture of personal care. We facilitate SOS consultations at your home, workout programs to help you get started, and weekly support via phone. Next week, I will post 3D Fitness Flows for use in your own Self-Optimization Sanctuary.

SOS CONTEST:

For all those who submit BEFORE and AFTER SOS pictures with your routine of personal self-care by the end of April, you will win a one-on-one training session with me at the Villa!

The OMGym for Strength, Cardiovascular Endurance, and Flexibility

During Coach2Edify’s first Enchanted Evening almost 3 years ago, my dear college friend from UCLA, Michael Kaliski, encouraged evolutionary human and designer of suspension training system OMGym, Sarah Kellette, to attend our event. Michael Kaliski, I will be eternally grateful for this!

When Sarah came to the event, we felt right at home with one another. When she showed me a postcard with the OMGym contraption, it was love at first sight! One year later, I attended her first OMGym Trainer Certification in Baltimore, Maryland. When she mentioned that I was the first Certified Trainer in Southern California, I knew that it was time to make the move to go independent from my 5-year-plus tenure at Equinox Fitness.

A few months later, we are running 11 classes of semi-private training in 3D Fitness using the OMGym as one of our key tools to activate energy systems. The OMGym has also been a very special way to introduce students to meditation through our signature Cocoon of Light Guided Meditations. These meditations use the OMGym’s womb-like hammock.

A few quotes from our students using the cocoon: “This is surreal,” “I don’t want to ever leave this place,” and “I’ve never ever felt anything like this before!”

Here are a few videos to show how the OMGym is used for various objectives, such as developing strength, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility. If you own a suspension training device and would like to learn new tricks, please feel free to e-mail me what kind of exercises you need to do in your system, and I’ll post some ideas! The OMGym is the only fitness-oriented suspension system of its kind in the marketplace with a tangible, scientific educational system and certification program administered by inventor Sarah Kellett herself.

Five Simple Steps to Bring Self-Care Into the Work Environment

Comments Off

Throughout all of my years as a physical trainer, I’ve found that the main obstacle for people to become self-sufficient in their personal care of body, mind, and spirit is a lack of TIME. The greatest cause for this lack of time is WORK.

In reality, these obstacles are set by our CHOICES. We often choose to make everything else more important than taking care of ourselves. At C2E, our mission is to create a new paradigm of self-care. No matter where you are or what you’re doing, the bottom line is that we need to MAKE TIME for our survival, sanity, health, joy, and to create a sense of fullness in life.

I believe that as we evolve, solutions to our WORK-TIME issues will take place. Solutions are already being implemented by cutting-edge corporations offering work-life balance programs, and by individuals like Timothy Ferriss, author of the Four-Hour Workweek. In the meantime, here are some simple steps to bring self-care into your work environment.

1) USE MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES.

Motivational quotes have become huge on social media outlets, and what a great trend this has been. It has made my Facebook wall a truly restorative place! Reading what inspires us is a very important exercise, but the most important element here is to use that inspiration when necessary. Choose quotes that motivate you to take care of yourself, print them out, and post them in your work area. Set your calendar with the time you have an appointment with yourself to optimize your performance. The rest is about having integrity to follow through. We tend to be faithful in keeping appointments with others, but when it comes to US we tend to be flaky, procrastinate, and eventually let things fall through the cracks. Far from excellent, right?! Whether it is Nike’s “JUST DO IT!” or the math that says that a one-hour workout is 4% of your day, just take what inspires you and make a commitment to have integrity with YOUR truth. What inspires us is our TRUTH. Become dedicated to this truth, and you will be stepping into a fully optimized lifestyle! Here are some of my favorite quotes:
QuotesBlog2

If you use Pinterest, here is a fabulous collection of my favorite QUOTES.

2) MAKE THE LUNCH HOUR YOUR SELF-OPTIMIZATION SANCTUARY (S.O.S.)

Yes, eating lunch is important! But it really doesn’t have to take a full hour. Time yourself and see how long it takes for you to eat. I bet you that it’s not more than 15 minutes! A good workout doesn’t have to be more than 30 minutes, so you can also have time to transition back into work. At C2E, we have a 3D Fitness Express Package were we offer a one-on-one training session to come up with your SOS workout, weekly support through a one-on-one phone check-in, a weekly, 30-minute guided meditation by phone, and a consultation to create a S.O.S. in your workplace. For those who respond to this blog, you will receive a 30% discount on this package priced at $160 monthly.

In the meantime, here are some simple exercises you can start integrating into S.O.S. Workouts on Pinterest.

3) REWARD YOURSELF.

Set a reward you will give yourself when you practice integrity for a full week. If you have an intention of doing S.O.S. workouts in your work space every other day this week and follow through, treat yourself to a massage, buy an item you’ve been wanting, or take yourself to see a movie. The bottom line is that we need to parent ourselves, and rewards always work!

4) REPEAT 1-3.

5) REPEAT 1-3 over and over and over again until you have morphed your lunch hour into a S.O.S. hour for life!
